Role & Creative Focus
Working under the direction of Scott Wade and alongside the wider production team, I was responsible for the CGI and VFX sequence involving the camera’s transition into the ear canal and the subsequent 3D visualization. The goal was to create a visual metaphor for intrusion and internalization—making the act of sound, and the desire to shut it out, physically perceptible.
Conceptual Approach
Rather than treating the sequence as a purely technical effect, I approached it as a psychological passage. The movement into the ear needed to feel intimate and unsettling, blurring the line between physical anatomy and abstract space. The 3D environment was designed to suggest an inner landscape shaped by sound and irritation, without becoming literal or illustrative.
Process & Technical Execution
I developed the ear canal transition and internal visualization using custom 3D modeling and CGI workflows, focusing on camera motion, scale, and surface detail to maintain continuity with the live-action footage. Particular attention was paid to pacing and smoothness of the camera move, ensuring the transition felt inevitable rather than abrupt. Lighting and texture were kept restrained to preserve the film’s monochromatic, minimal aesthetic.
Integration & Final Outcome
The finished sequence integrates seamlessly into the film’s visual language, functioning as a brief but pivotal shift from external observation to internal experience. By visualizing an otherwise invisible sensation, the CGI moment supports the film’s themes without breaking its tonal restraint—serving the director’s intent while adding a layer of psychological depth through digital intervention.
